Day 6 of Chesapeake Bay Loop

We had a leisurely Sunday morning at the Cambridge Yacht Basin Marina.  We took a walk and visited the replica of the Choptank River Light House, that houses a museum and where the marina staff have their offices.  This is an excellent museum, giving the history of screw pile light houses in the area.  This light house is a replica of the previously operated light house located near Oxford, MD, which stopped operations in 1964.  The Cambridge Yacht basin also has a very nice World War I memorial fountain and displayed the names of the military personnel who received the Distinguished Service Cross.

We pulled out of the marina at 11:50 am and anchored out in the river, where Richard put on his dive suit and air supply hose and cleaned the bottom of the boat.  It took him a little over a half hour and he only got one jelly fish sting.  We pulled up anchor at 2 pm and pulled into our slip at Safe Harbor Marina in Oxford, MD at 3:50 pm after travelling 10.3 miles.  We met another AGLCA looper who was coincidentally at the Cambridge Yacht Basin Marina that we had just left.  We saw them pull out and we were admiring their boat.  When we docked at Oxford, they came up to our slip and talked with us.  We had a very nice conversation, and they filled us in on details about the Great Loop (which we hope to do next year), as they are 2 weeks away from completing the loop.  They have been traveling for 11 months.  Richard fixed Italian sausage on the outside grill (topside on the boat) and I made a couple side dishes in our galley.  After dinner, we took a bicycle ride and checked out a bit of Oxford, going to an ice cream shoppe that Richard had read about that is supposed to be among the top 5 in the U.S.  It was called Scottish Highland Creamery and the ice cream there was delicious!!  We also rode around and checked out a waterfront restaurant, a boat building facility, and multiple oyster and crabbing boats that were slipped here at the various marinas in the town of Oxford.  We also witnessed another glorious sunset tonight.  God is Good.
